  • EWEN Meeting - EWEN structure and elections to EWEN and EWENA

Keynote speakers:

Workshop 1:

“From Science into Practice: Interpreting Forage Analysis for Horses in a Changing Analytical Landscape”

This workshop explores the reliability and interpretation of different forage analysis methods in equine nutrition, from wet chemistry to NIRS and emerging handheld technologies. Participants will gain insight into the strengths, limitations, and practical use of these methods, including their role in assessing forage quality. The session will connect analytical results to real-world feeding decisions, highlighting what we know, what we don’t, and how science can be applied in practice.

Workshop 2:

“Toxic Plants and Equine Health: Recognition, Risks and Prevention”

This workshop will address the role of plant toxicity within equine nutrition and pasture-based feeding systems. The session will discuss how toxic plants may enter the diet through grazing or conserved forages, present approaches to recognise common toxic plants affecting horses, and review the clinical signs of plant poisoning and their implications for equine health and performance. Some plant samples will be displayed during the session. The workshop will also highlight prevention and risk management strategies, including pasture monitoring, forage quality assessment, and nutritional management practices to reduce the risk of plant-related toxicosis in equine feeding systems.
